エレクトロニック・アーツは、アルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシ選手と「FIFA」シリーズのカバープレーヤーとして全世界で製品パッケージを飾る複数年契約を結んだことを発表した。
今回の包括的な契約により、メッシはEA SPORTS フットボール・アンバサダー（サッカー大使）に就任し、「地球一売れているサッカーゲーム」「FIFA」シリーズのグローバルマーケティングと広告キャンペーンに登場するだけではなく、ソーシャルメディアを用いた活動も行う計画です。さらにEA SPORTSはレオ・メッシ財団 と共同で世界中の子供達に対する社会、教育、健康に関する活動を支援して行く予定です。
今回の契約について「世界最高のサッカーゲームチームに加わりたかったんだ。高名なEASPORTSと一緒に働けて光栄だよ。EA SPORTSは僕と同じように創造性、質と社会的責任を重視したブランドだからね」とメッシは語っています。
また、今回の「FIFA ストリート」では初回特典として、メッシと世界最高のサッカー選手12人が登場するadidas オールスターチームがプレイ可能になります。さらに、バルセロナの歴史的な中心地、カタルーニャ広場周辺で行われているストリートサッカーをイメージし、メッシ自信もデザインに協力したリオネル・メッシ・バルセロナ会場も含まれます。
本作はストリートサッカーのクールなスタイルと世界中のスター選手のプレイを再現すべくEA SPORTSのEAカナダスタジオが「FIFA」クォリティの本格ストリートサッカーゲーム「FIFA ストリート」として新たに開発したものです。日本国内ではテキストを日本語ローカライズしてPlayStation3にて2012年3月22日（木）に発売予定です。
